What does it mean to be Limitless?

When I hear the word limitless I think of someone who cannot be stopped or held back from anything. It doesn’t necessarily mean life is easy but, instead means not letting any challenge define what you are capable of. For people with disabilities, it is about breaking through all the stereotypes and barriers set by society of what they think they are capable of. These limits placed on them are not accurate because they are capable of more than the stereotypes. Being limitless means not giving up, adapting, and overcoming challenges to achieve your goals.     This happens all the time in the world around us, in sports, school, and jobs. However, no one is limited and it is recognized that not one mistake can define a person’s potential (this is the same with disabilities.)

Clearing Up Common Misconceptions

There are many stereotypes built around people with disabilities that can make a person with a disability feel dissatisfied or discouraged with who they are. The most common misconceptions include: -People with disabilities can’t live independently. -All disabilities can be see with the eye. -Having a disability decreases happiness in life. -A person with a disability is all they are.     However, these misconceptions are not true at all. We plan to make it known in our documentary that these claims are false. In reality, people with disabilities CAN live on their own, have jobs, and make their own decisions. Even though it is always nice to have help they are capable of doing things independently. Also, some disabilities like mental and learning disabilities are not visible like physical disabilities are. A disability does not fully make up a person’s identity they can live happy, successful, and fulfilling lives just like any ordinary person.

Group Reflection

Working with my group on this documentary showed us a lot about teamwork, communication, collaboration, and responsibility. With all our differing ideas, it made it a challenge to agree on one thing however, we learned that it is important to listen to each other and consider everyone’s idea’s and opinions. By doing this we were able to combine our ideas and make them even better.     We also learned how to be responsible for each of our jobs. By working together and trusting each other to do what they needed to it helped us work efficiently and stay on track. The teamwork we had helped us support each other and hold each other accountable so we could ensure that everything was done in time.      Working as a group taught us that we needed to be flexible with plans and instead of getting frustrated with each other we could work together and solve the problem together. This documentary brought us closer as collaborators and helped us grow as ...

Reflection

While working on this documentary, it changed the way I look at people with differences that aren’t really different after all. I learned that disabilities aren’t just medical conditions they are real life experiences that can happen to anyone. They affect how people communicate, learn, and interact with others everyday. I started to understand that everyone’s experiences are different from each other’s but, they all have one thing in common….they are not defined by their disability.      I learned that it is important to bring awareness to the issue of discrimination of people with disabilities. Learning the stories from people with disabilities helped me to realize that people with disabilities are often misunderstood and depreciated. Filing this documentary taught me that words and actions can have a big impact on someone who may be struggling. So, it is alway important to be kind because some disabilities are not seen.     Many peop...
